About

From NYC, New Orleans, and around the world - bringing 25 years of performance experience home to Portland.

Having spent his youth as an orchestral tuba player, bassist Kenny Murphy knows what it is to hold down the low end - to always land on your feet. After moving to Brooklyn, NY at 19 to form indie rock power trio Les Racquet, he toured full time for 5 years before relocating to New Orleans for a decade. One can think they know how to lay back in the pocket but until you have a taste of what the rhythm sections in Nola are cookin’, you may not truly be a guardian of the groove.

Performing regularly with dozens of acts over the years, Murphy has toured internationally with indie songwriters, sh*t kickin’ country acts, delta blues trios, rnb soul singers and jazz fusion groups. Working for Hank Lane Productions in NYC and entertaining on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Kenny learned the tricks of the trade and what it means to perform day in and day out for folks from all over the world.

‘If you’ve got a heartbeat you've got rhythm, if you can breathe you can sing.’
